WHAT WE DO

The Urban League of Greater San Francisco Bay Area is committed to providing impactful programs and events centered around improving/elevating African Americans and other underserved communities.

We provide programs that involve mentorship, career accelerators, and fellowships for those interested in government and other career pathways. Our programs range from youth interacting with technology, celebrating women, uniting Bay Area communities to stop hate, hosting fireside chats, celebrating community leaders, to ensuring the communities we serve have equal access to financial and health wellness.

At the Urban League of Greater San Francisco Bay Area, we believe in empowerment, opportunity, and service. We develop programs and create opportunities to reach communities across nine counties. We strive to actively create a better Bay Area and assist those through a myriad of means to ensure our communities are set up for success. We aim to be strategic thought partners and creatively develop opportunities through education and job training, housing and community development, workforce development, entrepreneurship, and health.

OUR PILLARS

OUR FIVE PILLARS

Our work and impact are focused on five main pillars.

Workforce Development & Access includes job training linked to internships and job opportunities.

Our Mentorship Program connects those experienced and successful in their careers with those that are trying to either learn more about career options, prepare effective resumes, or need to practice successful interview techniques.

With our corporate partners, we coordinate job fairs to connect job seekers to their future job. In programs such as the Warner Brothers Discovery Access program, our cohorts learn different aspects of the Entertainment industry and receive ongoing early access to jobs at Warner Brothers Discovery.

Civic Engagement & Advocacy includes the Municipal Fellows Program, which pairs individuals that aspire to a career in public service with government leaders, such as County and City government offices.

Voter participation is critical to our work. Our Get That Vote In program has elevated the importance of voting the last two years with our bus ride across the nine Bay Area counties that Urban League of Greater San Francisco Bay Area services.

Leadership and Entrepreneurship includes multiple signature Urban League of Greater San Francisco Bay Area events and programs. The Black Executive Leadership Accelerator (BELA) program with UC Berkeley is for rising stars at companies, government, and community-based organizations. This world-class learning opportunity provides effective, impactful leaders with executive-level techniques.

Our Distinguished Leaders series features speakers such as University of California President Michael Drake and Senator Alex Padilla, sharing their journey of leadership and impact.

Our youth program, in partnership with Kids Teach Tech, includes a leadership team of youth driving the program.

Education & Youth Empowerment includes extensive learning and leadership opportunities through partnerships with educational institutions and community organizations. In collaboration with Kids Teach Tech, our youth programs create and teach technology classes for all ages of youth in their community, turning hesitant students into confident learners and teachers with more future opportunities.

One of our signature educational programs is the Black Executive Leadership Accelerator (BELA), a program in partnership with UC Berkeley Haas School of Business.

Moving In

Health & Housing: We work with banks to provide financial assistance for those unable to own a home and financial education to help them keep it. We focus on physical and mental health, including maternal health and education on preventing health issues.
